ACID TEST AWAITS DHONI

With India’s drubbing at the hands of England in the recently-concluded away series fresh in mind, Team India will be itching to accord the same treatment to the visiting English team when they take on the latter in the 5-match ODI series at home.

While Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni been the most successful Indian captain so far, his plummeting fortunes as a captain have been a worrisome factor of late. He steered Team India to scale new heights after the team became No. 1 in Test cricket; and with World Cup victory it was like icing on the cake.

But it’s baffling why the team couldn’t hang on to the No. 1 Test status for long – India were No. 1 from December 2009 to July 2011. Though the critics said India achieved the status merely after beating mostly Asian countries and they failed while playing against Australia and South Africa.
There might be a thousand reasons for the recent defeat on English soil - ranging from injuries before and during the series and lack of form. But for a team to perform so badly in spite of being the No. 1 Test team shows that the team needs to introspect their lacunae and work on the gray areas.
